Dominus Estate, founded in 1982, is the brainchild of Christian Moueix. To grasp the magnificence of Dominus Estate's wines is to first acquaint oneself with Christian Moueix.
Moueix is synonymous with the famed Chateau Petrus, one of the world's best wines. He presided and produced their phenomenal wines for nearly 40 years. When he chanced upon the Napanook vineyard in Napa Valley, the astute viticulturalist knew instantly there was no turning back. Moueix named his winery Dominus, Latin for "Lord of Estate", a reference to his unrelenting commitment in land/terroir stewardship.
It is no wonder that the Cabernet Sauvignon-led Dominus 2015 is conferred 100 Points by Wine Advocate. Napanook 2015, also Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, is the fantastic younger sister that is more approachable and youthful.
So, if you do whiff hints of Chateau Petrus' vibes, it likely isn't your mind playing tricks on you. Count yourself lucky.
