Chateau Pichon Comtesse is the prestigious Second Growth of Pauillac, next in rank to First Growths Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton-Rothschild and Latour. The consensus is that it is a feminine Pauillac, one with sensuous qualities. An iron fist within a velvet glove. This characteristic is attributed to the use of a little more Merlot and a little lesser new oak. It is also perhaps not entirely a coincidence that Pichon Comtesse was managed by females in the 18th century.
Today, Chateau Pichon Comtesse is regarded as one of the best examples of Bordeaux Grand Cru Classe. Indeed, the wines epitomise the remarkable balance of Pauillac, with silky tannins and an expressive aromatic complexity.
